).
This was an 11 or 22 mile non-trophy event, but we track participants finish times. All paddle craft are welcome to attend.
Registration began at 7:00 AM and we started promptly at 8:00 AM. Entry Fee was $25.00 and included lunch and event shirt.
The challenge started at Lee Wenner Park in Cocoa at the base of the SR 520 Causeway bridge.
The course paralleled the Intracoastal Waterway in the Indian River and continued south for 11 miles to the bridge at the Pineda Causeway (SR 519).
For the 22 Mile race, turn around was be just prior to the bridge at a Manatee No Wake Zone sign which was also marked with a buoy.
There was a maximum of 4 hours for paddlers to reach the turn-around point at Pineda Causeway.
Any paddlers who did not meet the 4 hours exited the water at POW-MIA Park adjacent to the turn around.
Any one exiting was provided a ride back to Lee Wenner Park.
For the 11 mile race, the turn around point was mid-way at 5.5 miles and will be marked with a buoy.
Paddlers rounded the buoy and return to the starting point to finish the race.
Escort boats followed the paddlers and escorted stragglers to the finish line.
There was water on board the boats for paddlers but all were encouraged to sufficient water for themselves.
A hydration pack or equivalent is recommended always recommended. Also reef shoes are recommended for water entry and exit.
We are very excited to have held this challenge for the fifth consecutive year.
It is a lot of fun and is a true long distance challenge for everyone.
