The Cocoa Beach Surf Museum presents   THE DICK CATRI EXHIBIT   Honoring an East Coast Legend

Currently on display at The Cocoa Beach Surf Museum, THE DICK CATRI EXHIBIT showcases the life and achievements of one of the East Coast's most influential Surfers. Professional Athlete, Hunter, Sailor, and Businessman, Dick Catri personifies the complete Waterman Surfer to a standard that still commands respect to this day.

He was among an elite group of early surfing pioneers that showed the world that East Coast Surfers were as capable as any in the ultimate proving ground, the big wave breaks of Hawaii's North Shore. Dick Catri was known for his fearlessness at spots like Waimea Bay, Makaha, and Pipeline. Riding a massive 11'0" Elephant gun shaped by Dick Brewer he charged the biggest surf Hawaii had to offer and gained the respect of the locals, earning an invititation to compete in the prestigous 1967 "Duke" contest.

As important as his accomplishments in giant surf, Dick brought home the knowledge he acquired surfing with the world's best Surfers in the world's best waves and passed it on to his peers and many generations of younger Surfers back on the East Coast. Names such as Propper, Valuzzi, Codgen, Sharpe, and Munroe in the early days, and crossing the decades influencing names like Holland, Spier, Bouchard, Slater.

The slide show below provides a quick overview of the exhibit, but to really appreciate it, and Dick Catri's accomplisments and contributions to East Coast surfing, there is no substitute for coming to the Museum and seeing it up close and in-person.
